Discover South Kona
Experience Hawaiʻi at a Different Pace
South Kona invites you to experience Hawaiʻi at a different rhythm.
Far from the crowds and busy resort areas, the Kona coastline offers a quieter, more authentic side of the Big Island. This is where small communities, family farms, and breathtaking landscapes have preserved the spirit of old Hawaiʻi.
Here, life moves with the rhythm of nature. Mornings begin with birdsong and gentle trade winds. Days unfold without urgency, inviting you to slow down, explore, and appreciate the beauty found in simple moments.
Whether you're wandering through coffee country, discovering hidden beaches, snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, or enjoying fresh tropical fruit picked just down the road, South Kona offers experiences that nourish both body and soul.

A Living Landscape
South Kona is a place where nature and community exist in harmony.
The landscape changes with every mile—from ancient lava fields and dramatic ocean cliffs to lush tropical forests, fertile coffee farms, fruit orchards, and colorful gardens.
This rich volcanic soil supports an extraordinary variety of agriculture. Coffee, cacao, macadamia nuts, avocados, citrus, mangoes, papayas, bananas, and countless tropical flowers thrive here, creating one of the most diverse agricultural regions in Hawaiʻi.
Driving through South Kona is an experience in itself. Quiet country roads wind through historic villages, shaded coffee farms, and panoramic ocean vistas, revealing a side of the island that many visitors never discover.

Coffee Belt
South Kona is world-renowned for producing some of the finest coffee on Earth.
The combination of volcanic soil, ideal elevation, gentle afternoon cloud cover, and generations of farming knowledge creates the perfect conditions for exceptional Kona coffee. Kona coffee is hand-picked only when ripe, resulting in its exceptional flavor.
Unlike large commercial plantations found elsewhere, many of the area's coffee farms remain family-owned, welcoming visitors to experience the journey from tree to cup.
Take time to stroll through the orchards, meet local farmers, learn about the harvesting process, and enjoy freshly roasted Kona coffee where it is grown. It's a simple experience that beautifully reflects the hospitality and craftsmanship of South Kona.
Kealakekua Bay
Where Nature and History Meet
One of Hawaiʻi's most extraordinary places lies just minutes from Luana Inn.
Kealakekua Bay is celebrated for its crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, abundant marine life, and breathtaking natural beauty. It is one of the island's premier destinations for kayaking, snorkeling, and observing spinner dolphins in their natural habitat.
Beyond its beauty, Kealakekua Bay holds profound cultural and historical significance. For centuries it has been a place of deep importance in Hawaiian history, spirituality, and tradition.
We invite you to experience the bay with curiosity and respect.
Farm Experiences We Love
South Kona is home to many exceptional family farms, each offering a unique glimpse into the island's agricultural traditions. From award-winning Kona coffee to tropical fruit, cacao, honey, and macadamia nuts, these experiences allow visitors to meet the people who care for the land and share their passion.
Many farms offer guided tours and tastings, giving you the opportunity to learn how Kona coffee is cultivated, harvested, and roasted while discovering the rich diversity of crops that thrive in South Kona's volcanic soil.
One experience we especially enjoy recommending is a private visit to Dr. Paulo's Kona Coffee & Macadamia Nut Farms. Dr. Paulo and his team are sometimes able to arrange a more personal tour of their working farm, where guests can learn about both Kona coffee and macadamia nut production from the people who grow them. Because this is a private experience, we recommend contacting Dr. Paulo in advance to inquire about availability and to arrange your visit.
We're always happy to share our favorite recommendations and help you discover the local farms, artisans, cafés, and small businesses that make South Kona such a special place to explore.

Experience More by Slowing Down
South Kona is not a destination to rush through.
It is a place to wander quiet country roads, pause at scenic overlooks, converse with local farmers, watch the sun set over the Pacific, and discover the simple pleasures that make Hawaiʻi so special.
Many guests arrive planning to see as much as possible. By the end of their stay, they often discover that the greatest gift South Kona offers is not another attraction to check off a list—but the opportunity to slow down, reconnect with nature, and experience the island at its own gentle pace.
We hope your time here leaves you not only with beautiful memories, but with a deeper appreciation for the land, the people, and the timeless spirit of South Kona.
